How to Store Basil
Cold and moisture are the enemy of fresh basil!
Basil should always be stored dry to prevent the leaves from turning black. A warm-weather crop, fresh basil is also sensitive to cold temperatures. The best way to store basil is to place the stems (not leaves) upright in a glass or jar of room temperature water and keep it on the kitchen counter until needed. An alternative is to wrap the basil in a dry paper towel and kept in an airtight container at about 50 degrees (you can wash it just before use).
