Dennis completed our high tunnel this week and to "break it in" today we put 2000 salad greens in the newly tilled and warmed soil! These beautiful mixed lettuce plants will soon - in 3 weeks or so - become luscious greens! We are excited to offer these greens to Roots, the restaurant in downtown Rutland, as well as possibly at Winter Farmers Market.Tomorrow scallions go inside the tunnel, as well as another 1000 mixed greens. Hooray for the start of spring!
This High Tunnel is heated solely by the power of the sun. For the next few weeks it will be the perfect environment for greens and scallions but soon it will be filled with early tomatoes and cucumbers. 
We are also starting to prep outside beds. Dennis was able to rototill the soil today and has started building the Low Tunnels which will warm the soil and nurture spring plants. Lettuce, spinach, broccoli rabe, kale, radishes, and more will be soon in the ground warmed by the sun and the low tunnels!
